Increasing your confidence

Date Published: 7th April 2017

Its not unusual for new riders and beginners to feel vulnerable and intimidated. Believe us when we we say we have all been there, but its true. We understand you turn up for a club ride and it looks like everyone knows what they are doing and they all look like they are ready to ride 'the tour' (well maybe not - but you know what we mean).

Cycling confidence is key and in truth like any skill it comes from practice. it is easy to become deflated and a little depressed. the key is small steps, patience and continous improvement. There are many tricks and techniques that will help you, and more experienced riders in the club will be happy to explain and share. Please don't be afraid to ask.

Some of these will seem counter intuitive, maybe even a little awkward and even un-natural but stick with it and you will improve. A perfect example of this is seat height, most new riders have their seats to low, whilst this makes you feel more stable and this is important when starting out, you lose a lot effort and power through this (effectively you are working harder than you need to) , a gradual movement of your seat to the correct height will help.

So as we said please ask, other riders will be more than happy to guide you and help you on your way.

Here is a small video explain some things to help improve your confidence.
